The Lawrence Foundation

of New York

Investing in human potential

We support programs that serve individuals living with economic insecurity, because everyone should have the opportunity to build better lives for themselves and their families.

about us

The Lawrence Foundation started in 1976. We support organizations that work towards building a more just and inclusive society. As a private foundation that values a committed working relationship with all our grantees, we do not accept unsolicited proposals.

How we work

The Lawrence Foundation uses a rigorous approach to selecting grantee organizations.
1

We identify organizations that bring innovative, proven solutions to scale.

2

We believe in non-profits that adapt and change their programs as the causes of economic inequality shift with time.

3

We work with other funders to share promising strategies to solve persistent social and economic problems.

4

We support organizations with inspired leadership from the staff and Board.

Program Areas

While our primary geographic focus is metro New York, our impact extends beyond the region's borders. We fund organizations that create equity and opportunity. We make investments in five Program Areas:
1

Education

Ensuring every student has the academic skills they need to succeed.
